A Foot in Two Worlds: Navigating Trauma with the Wisdom of the Body

Mar 15, 2026

Life has a way of throwing abrupt curveballs – like a sudden car accident – just as we feel we’ve mastered our inner peace. These moments test our foundation, revealing the "trauma timelines" we carry and how our nervous system truly responds to stress.

There is a profound shift that happens when we learn to live with "a foot in both worlds." On one hand, the body experience is real: the physical shock, the adrenaline, and the fear. On the other hand, there is the "witness" – the higher self that remains present, offering a sense of divine safety even in the midst of chaos.

Understanding your nervous system is key to this balance. Think of your sympathetic system as the gas pedal and the parasympathetic as the brakes. True resilience isn't about avoiding the "gas"; it’s about having the tools to return to the moment and remember the divine guidance that is always waiting for us. Each breath is an opportunity to take back your power and choose how you show up for "what is."

Key Insights for Your Practice:
  • Witnessing the Response: Learn to observe your body’s physical shaking without letting it become your only identity.

  • The Gift of the Present: Suffering often comes from the belief that what is happening shouldn't be happening.

  • Conscious Feeling: Even a negative feeling, when felt consciously, is an act of being with God's will.
